Temporary Accommodation for Wren Academy Enfield and One Degree Academy

Planning consent was granted last September for temporary school accommodation within the Chase Farm Development at parcel C. Unfortunately, it was not possible for the site to be ready in time for September 2020 opening and both Wren Academy and One Degree Academy occupy alternative temporary accommodation elsewhere.

The project team and the Department for Education (DfE) have taken the opportunity to review the temporary accommodation site parcel and as such a new application is being submitted to Enfield Council for both Wren Academy and One Degree Academy to move there in September 2021.

It is proposed that the schools will occupy the temporary site for one academic year (2021/22). Wren Academy will have 360 students and One Degree Academy will have 240 pupils. The site will then be vacated and the temporary accommodation removed.

Proposed layout for parcel C showing both temporary schools, shared car park and existing access.

Although on the same site the schools would be securely separated for operational and safeguarding reasons.

The plans are for both schools’ temporary accommodation to be double storey modular buildings, assembled from prefabricated, pre-designed and high-quality classroom units, with associated ancillary support and access spaces. The works associated with the application include;

  • provision of temporary primary and temporary secondary school buildings
  • hard and soft landscaping
  • cycle, visitor and staff car parking, drop off point, servicing zone and bin store.

We will shortly be submitting the updated planning application for the temporary site which you can comment on via Enfield Council’s planning portal at planningandbuildingcontrol.enfield.gov.uk/online-applications/.
You can find the application using the postcode EN2 8JL.
